Treatment
“What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?”
Members of the College of Psychologists of Ontario are regulated professionals and are authorized to practice psychology in the province. They are uniquely trained to provide psychological assessment, diagnosis and evidence-based treatment. They administer and interpret psychological tests. They do not prescribe medication in Ontario.
Psychiatrists are members of the College of Physicians of Ontario and are medical doctors who specialize in mental health. They offer psychological therapy and often prescribe psychotropic medication such as antidepressants and anti-anxiety medicine.
